Sure I’m thankful for family, friends, health, and everything else obvious everyone else is listing. But I’m also thankful for some other things.
- That I’m alive in the 21st century
- That I do not suffer the debilitating mental disease of victimization that is sweeping the world
- That I am endlessly fascinated by science and nature
- That some people read my blog
- That despite being 1/2 a century old, I’m not senile yet
- That I have enough sense to continually turn off the TV
- That there is so much more to learn
- That during my whole life I wasn’t afraid to be different
- That far more is right than wrong in the world, even though everyone focuses on what is wrong
- That so many people write so many excellent books
- That despite oppressive governments, even in the West, I’m mostly free to do as I please
- That the Internet moves faster than any government can control
- That I have learned that my circumstances do not control me
- That I get wiser as I get older
- That I’m surrounded by such incredible diversity of people and thought
- That I’m home right now while my family is out Black Fridaying

Gratitude,
One of my favorite life skills. Especially in the materialistic society we live, in which we often forget to count our blessings, running most of they time in what you would call a… rat race.
I think I’m gonna do my list. Thanks for the idea Stephen

Good idea. We should actually take count of what we’re thankful for more often than once a year.

Thanks for the list Stephen, most of the ones you have mentioned are applicable in my case too except that sometimes I am controlled by circumstances around me

Those are GREAT things to be thankful for. I love the 21st century one. It’s so true that we should be grateful for that!

Great list. I like the last one. Honestly, although I’m almost as old as you (tee hee) I hadn’t recalled hearing the term “Black Friday” until this year. I’m Canadian, so maybe that counts for something (our Thanksgiving is in October). I also was home that day, observing this phenomenon.

We can count endlessly things to appreciate, we just have to look around and take it in. Flowers, trees, birds, and stars in the sky. A friendly neighbor waving, a child and dog enjoying that moment in life.
“Whether in favor or in humiliation, be not dismayed. Let your eyes leisurely look at the flowers blooming and falling in your courtyard. Whether you leave or retain your position, take no care. Let your mind wander with the clouds folding and unfolding beyond the horizon.” – Hung Tzu-ch’eng
