Great job, a lot of wonderful wisdom and inspiration here. My favorite is : "You are not here to live someone else’s dreams. Believe in your dream. Don’t be discouraged by the small minds of others. Don’t allow someone else to steal your dream. Your friends and family will resist your dream because they fear that change. They want you to be safe."
Awesome! I love it.
Thanks,
Giovanna Garcia

@Lea, yes we should expect challenges, obstacles, walls, resistance or whatever else you want to call them. You are correct in that they often turn out to be opportunities. Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Stephen,

I agree with what you and Douglas said about taking small steps towards large dreams and goals. That's solid advice, as well as have patience.

The only other thing that might be added is, also expect what can seem like an occasional step backwards or even encounter what may seem like a wall. It's those moments that are good for reassessing our direction, the requirements to achieve each phase of a goal and to check if new information or opportunities that we were previously unaware of are now available to us.

Great post. Thank you for sharing :)

@Douglass, absolutely correct. Those tiny successes are powerful forces in the feedback loop. You can think big but need to act small. Life is a cinch, inch by inch and so forth. This is actually the topic for a future post of mine. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Thanks - very inspiring ideas. But taking steps toward our dreams may feel overwhelming if they are too big for us to handle emotionally.

Robert Maurer, PhD has studied social and neuropsychological aspects of achievement and creative expression for many years. He notes that even thinking creatively can induce fear:

“Innovation triggers the alarm mechanism in the amygdala section of the brain that’s known as the fight-or-flight response,” he writes. “More simply put, the thought of change ignites fear… It effectively shuts down all nonessential brain functions, including creative thinking.

“Essentially, kaizen [the Japanese principle of taking 'small steps'] disarms the brain’s fear response…it ‘tiptoes’ around it..."
