GABA calms and stabilizes the brain. It is the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter of the brain. It smoothes you out and gives you a more constant mood and performance. According to Eric Braverman, 50% of the population are GABA dominant natures. GABA natures are sociable and remain calm amongst the chaos. They love organization and are dependable. GABA natures don’t have wild mood swings and love team or group activities.

by Stephen Mills May 17, 2009

Acetylcholine is important for memory and learning and is a neurotransmitter used throughout the body. It controls muscle contraction for example. Acetylcholine may be extremely important for long term memory. It determines your brain speed. If you have too little, your brain is going to slow down. The most extreme case of this is Alzheimer’s. You can think of acetylcholine as a lubricant for your brain and body. Acetylcholine along with dopamine are the neurotransmitters that turn your brain on. They allow it to work hard and fast. A lack of either one can lead to memory and attention problems.

Most people have some kind of dominate nature that centers around one of the four major neurotransmitters types. Dopamine is the thinking neurotransmitter. It creates energy and allows you to focus and concentrate. Dopamine driven natures are interested in activities related to their intellect. Chess players, crossword puzzle players, doctors, scientists, and engineers are probably mostly dopamine dominant individuals. Dopamine natures are dominated more by rational thought than by feelings and they tend to dominate others around them. Dopamine makes you alert and quick witted.

Yes You Can!

by Stephen Mills April 5, 2009
Thumbnail image for Yes You Can!

Last year I made a simple decision. I decided to take my life back. This simple decision led to a few other simple decisions which I will describe below. This was not a blinding light of inspiration from above. It was nothing more than a result of simple reflection. I could either do something or continue to complain and swallow drugs. I could either do something or continue in a downward spiral of physical and mental destruction.

If you want to have more energy in the day and sleep better at night, you need to get plenty of sunlight and get it at the right time of the day. Our biology developed in the absence of indoor lighting. Our ancestors woke up with and were active in the sunlight. They slept in the dark. The cycle of sunlight and darkness regulates hormonal systems in our body and is very important in maintaining a healthy circadian rhythm.
